NBA legend LeBron James could possibly be making a very big decision — he is in the middle of either choosing to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers where he could possibly be making at least $52.6 millions, or, he could change the contract, which would, in turn, help his team in saving money. Now that the Lakers are moving up to sign new players, it would be difficult to do that with LeBron’s current contract already in place. Even as LeBron is 40 and remains one of the strongest NBA players out there, it will be interesting to see how things turn out. Not only would it change LeBron’s contract, but also, could change the Lakers' future.

Will LeBron James continue with the Los Angeles Lakers or step away?

LeBron James could possibly choose to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers for another year, which will help him in earning at least $52.6 million. But considering the new players that are getting ready to join for drafts, it will be interesting how the team works out with limited money. As per CBS Sports’ reporter Sam Quinn’s recent report, he said, “All of the reporting to this point suggests that James is expected to opt into the final year and $52.6 million on his current deal.Further, he said, “Should James and Dorian Finney-Smith pick up their player options for next season, the Lakers would enter the offseason roughly $4 million below the first-apron threshold and around $16 million below the second."
He added, "During the season, teams below the first apron can sign anyone waived on the buyout market. Teams above the first apron can only sign bought-out players if their previous salaries were below the non-taxpayer mid-level exception.”"All in all, this is a pretty significant amount of flexibility we're talking about here. There are other ways that the Lakers could generate it, most simply by dumping salary through trades. By far the simplest, though, would be a sacrifice on James' part (opt out and sign a team friendly deal with Lakers),” he said.Well, LeBron James is 40, but he’s nowhere close to retiring. He said, “I have a lot of time to take care of my injury, my knee, the rest of my body and make sure I'm as close to 100 percent as possible when training camp begins in late September.”
He further said, “At this point of my career, you think about when the end is. That's human nature, You think, is it this year? Or next year? Those thoughts always creep into your mind at this point of the journey. But I have not given it a specific timetable, date. I'm seeing how my body and family reacts too.”
