As the Edmonton Oilers hit the ice for Game 1 of the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers, many fans were focused not just on the score—but also on who was not in attendance. Lauren McDavid, wife of Oilers captain Connor McDavid, missed the crucial matchup, choosing instead to attend a bachelorette party for Celeste Desjardins, the fiancée of Oilers forward and Game 1 standout Leon Draisaitl.
Connor McDavid’s wife Lauren Kyle skips Stanley Cup Game 1 for bachelorette trip
Lauren Kyle’s absence caught fans by surprise, particularly given the emotional weight of the Finals for Connor, who previously described last year’s defeat to the Panthers as “heartbreaking.” He shared that this season felt less overwhelming, stating, “Last year felt monumental, felt very dramatic. This year feels very normal.” Still, the pressure of Game 1 was significant—and fans were expecting Lauren to be there to support him in person.

Instead, Lauren, along with Mikayla Nurse, wife of fellow Oilers alternate captain Darnell Nurse, boarded a flight en route to the celebration. On Instagram, Lauren openly acknowledged the awkward timing of the trip, writing, “PSA - when the bachelorette falls on less than ideal timing but we will be back for the food stuff!! go oilers!”
Despite the physical distance, Lauren didn’t entirely miss out on the action.
She posted a photo of herself streaming Game 1 on her laptop mid-flight via Air Canada, showing that she was still emotionally invested in the game, even from 30,000 feet in the air.
While some fans admired her honesty and team spirit, others questioned the decision to skip what could be a defining game in her husband’s career. In a sport where family presence often adds emotional fuel for athletes, the optics of Lauren’s absence during such a pivotal game sparked debate online.
