NEW DELHI: The government has debunked a social media post which claimed airports across India have been closed amid the ongoing conflict with Pakistan."Fake news alert: Social media posts are claiming that entry to airports across India banned. Government has taken no such decision," PIB Fact Check wrote on X.It also shared a list of civilian airports (24) which have been closed for civil flight operations following a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) directive.
The clarification comes amid a flood of disinformation which has swept social media following India's Operation Sindoor in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, where 26 male tourists were shot dead by Pakistan-backed terrorists.Under Operation Sindoor, the Indian armed forces carried out precision strikes targeting nine sites linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen in Pakistan and PoK. In a statement following the anti-terrorist operation, the government said there was no intention to escalate but vowed to respond in the event of retaliation by Pakistan.During an all-party meeting on Thursday, defence minister Rajnath Singh reportedly informed opposition parties that 100 terrorists were killed in the operation by the Indian armed forces. After the meeting, Union minister Kiren Rijiju said Operation Sindoor is "still on."
