Varanasi: Ballia SP Omveer Singh on Sunday suspended three policemen from different police stations for using offensive language, misbehaving with the public and showing indiscipline.
ASP (south) Kripashankar said that a head constable of Nagra police station Ajay Tripathi was suspended for using offensive language with one Nitish Chauhan, who was summoned for questioning in a complaint.
Action was taken after an investigation by CO, Rasra, Vinod Gupta. Two constables of Bairia police station Manish Gaud and Priyavrat Gaud were suspended for assaulting the operator of a public service centre Rohit Gupta and extorting Rs 20,000 in the name of releasing him. Gupta, a resident of Bhagwanpur in Dokati area, operates a public service centre in the village. Some monetary dispute occurred between Gupta and a native of a neighbouring village. In the same dispute, he was called to the police station and thrashed by those constables. On Friday, Rohit met the SP and reported the entire incident, accusing the two constables of beating him without investigation and extorting Rs 20,000 in the name of releasing him.
Taking the matter seriously, the SP assigned the investigation to the area officer of Bairia. After the CO's report, the SP suspended both officers.
