Speeding car kills infant, injures two others in Itaunja
Lucknow: An eight-month-old infant was killed, and two others were seriously injured after a speeding car ploughed into them near the Singhamau village turn on the Lucknow–Sitapur highway under Itaunja police station limits on Sunday evening. A speeding car struck Poonam, a labourer, who was carrying her son Ayansh, and her co-worker Prasad Maurya around 7:30 pm outside an under-construction resort reportedly owned by Kunnu from the Mahanagar area. The impact was so severe that the child died on the spot, while Poonam and Prasad sustained grievous injuries. They were first rushed to the Itaunja Community Health Centre and later referred to Ram Sagar Mishra Joint Hospital in Bakshi Ka Talab for further treatment. It was alleged that the resort's site supervisor, Sunil Maurya—a resident of Triveni Nagar under Aliganj police station limits—was driving the car. Witnesses said he lost control while exiting the premises and fled immediately after hitting the labourers. Itaunja SHO Markandey Yadav confirmed that police are investigating the case and efforts are underway to apprehend the accused. No formal complaint has yet been lodged by the bereaved family.
