GHAZIABAD: A 35-year-old technician died while his colleague sustained severe burns when the compressor of an air conditioner exploded on the rooftop of a restaurant in Vaishali's Sector 4 on Saturday afternoon.
Pintu and Puran (40), both from Khoda, were called in to repair the AC at Hotel Walk in the Woods around 2pm by the management.
After fixing the glitch, the two men were refilling gas in the air conditioner. Minutes into the work, the compressor burst, leaving Pintu dead on the spot.
Puran, who suffered injuries, was rushed to Chandra Laxmi Hospital, where he is still undergoing treatment. No complaint has been received from Pintu's family yet, police said.
On Jan 25 last year, a kitchen chimney had sparked a fire in the restaurant. Chief fire officer Rahul Pal said the restaurant did not have a fire NOC then. No notices were served to the eatery this year.
